SONARI, September 23 : An Assam youth suspected of travelling towards Myanmar with the alleged intention of joining the banned militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent [ULFA (I)] has reportedly been detained during a special operation in the Mon area of Nagaland. The detained youth has been identified as Shyamal Danah, a resident of Alikinar in the Mahmora area of Dibrugarh district.

According to information available, the youth was allegedly travelling from the Charaideo side through Nagaland and was attempting to proceed towards Myanmar when security personnel intercepted him in Mon. The circumstances surrounding his journey, his alleged links with ULFA (I), and the precise purpose of his travel are now under investigation.

Special Operation Based on Intelligence Input

According to reports, Charaideo SSP Surjeet Singh Panesar received specific intelligence regarding the youth’s movements. Acting on the information and under Panesar’s direction, a special operation was planned to intercept him.

DSP Aryan Nath and DSP (Security) Naimuddin of Charaideo Police played key roles in the operation. The coordinated action also involved Captain Rakesh Singh of 20 Assam Rifles, with assistance from the Mon District Police in Nagaland.

The joint operation involving the different security agencies eventually led to Shyamal Danah being detained in the Mon area of Nagaland.

Suspected of Travelling to Myanmar via Nagaland

Preliminary information suggests that Danah had allegedly travelled from the Charaideo side into Nagaland and was attempting to move further towards Myanmar. It has been alleged that his intended destination was Myanmar and that he planned to join the banned ULFA (Independent) after reaching there.

Security agencies reportedly obtained information about his movements during the journey, following which he was intercepted in Mon.

Following his detention, Charaideo Police are reported to have initiated further investigation and necessary legal procedures in connection with the case.

Youth Hails from Alikinar in Dibrugarh’s Mahmora

Danah is stated to be a resident of Alikinar under the Mahmora area of Dibrugarh district. Investigators are now expected to examine how the youth allegedly came into contact with ULFA (I) and, if he was indeed attempting to join the outfit, what route and network he intended to use to reach Myanmar.

Another key aspect of the investigation will be to determine whether he had been in prior contact with any member or intermediary associated with the banned organisation. Investigators may also examine whether any other individual or network facilitated or played a role in his alleged journey.

At present, the claim that Danah was travelling to Myanmar with the intention of joining ULFA (Independent) remains an allegation based on preliminary information.
