SIVASAGAR, September 26 : With the rapid expansion of digital technology and online services, the risks associated with cybercrime and online fraud have also increased significantly. Against this backdrop, a cybercrime awareness programme was organised in Nazira to educate people about emerging cyber threats and promote safe and responsible behaviour in the digital world.
The programme, initiated by the Sivasagar District Police, placed special emphasis on online safety, prevention of cyber fraud, digital vigilance and the responsible use of technology.
Nazira Model Police Station and Citizens’ Committee Extend Support
The awareness programme was organised by the Sivasagar District Police in collaboration with the Nazira Model Police Station and the Nazira Police Station-level Citizens’ Committee. The event was held at the auditorium of Nazira College.
The primary objective of the programme was to sensitise students, senior citizens and members of the general public to the various forms and methods of cybercrime. Participants were also informed about essential precautions to be taken while using online platforms and digital services.
Special attention was given to educating participants on how they can protect themselves from different forms of fraud that may occur through digital platforms and how greater vigilance can help reduce the risk of falling victim to cybercrime.
Widespread Public Awareness Essential to Combat Cybercrime: Moidul Islam
The programme began with a welcome address by Moidul Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police, Sivasagar District Crime Branch.
In his address, Islam stressed the need to create widespread awareness among all sections of society to effectively tackle cybercrime. He underlined the importance of exercising caution while using digital services and online platforms.
The programme highlighted that public awareness and vigilance are among the most effective safeguards against potential cyber fraud and other forms of online deception.
Cyber Cell Officials Explain Ways to Stay Protected from Online Fraud
Bikash Gogoi and Bhaskarjyoti Baruah, Assistant Inspectors of the Sivasagar District Cyber Cell, participated in the programme as resource persons.
The two police officials elaborated on various aspects of cybercrime and shared important information about precautions that people should take while carrying out online activities. They also explained different measures that can help individuals protect themselves from cyber fraud.
The officials emphasised the importance of remaining vigilant while using digital platforms and keeping a watchful eye on suspicious online activities. Participants were told that while digital technology offers numerous benefits and conveniences, it is equally important to understand the potential risks and fraudulent methods associated with its use.
