“ONGC is Equally Committed to Education and Social Development” – Uday Paswan

SIVASAGAR, June 22 : In a major step towards strengthening educational infrastructure in rural Assam, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), one of India’s leading public sector energy companies, has inaugurated the newly constructed and renovated building of 343 No. Ligiribari Lower Primary School in Sivasagar district. The project, implemented under ONGC Assam Asset’s Annual SC/ST Component Plan (ACP) 2025-26, is expected to significantly improve the learning environment for students and contribute to the overall development of the local community.
The inauguration ceremony was held on the school campus in the presence of ONGC officials, members of the Village Coordination Committee (VCC), teachers, parents, students, and local residents. The event reflected ONGC’s continued commitment towards social responsibility and inclusive development, particularly in the fields of education and community welfare.

Uday Paswan Inaugurates the New School Building
The newly renovated school building was formally inaugurated by Uday Paswan, Executive Director and Asset Manager, ONGC Assam Asset, who attended the programme as the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, Paswan emphasized that ONGC’s responsibility extends beyond exploration and production of oil and natural gas. He stated that the corporation is equally dedicated to supporting education, healthcare, skill development, and community welfare initiatives across its operational areas.
“Education forms the foundation of a progressive society. Quality education can only flourish when students have access to safe and adequate infrastructure. ONGC remains committed to supporting institutions that help build the future of our nation,” Paswan said while addressing the gathering.
He further noted that children living in rural and remote areas deserve the same opportunities and educational facilities available in urban centres. According to him, ONGC has consistently invested in strengthening educational institutions and improving access to quality learning infrastructure in underserved regions.

Permanent Solution to a Long-Standing Flooding Problem
A major challenge faced by Ligiribari LP School over the years has been its location in a low-lying area prone to seasonal flooding. During the monsoon season, the school premises often remained submerged for two to four months, disrupting classes and affecting students’ attendance. This recurring issue posed serious obstacles to the academic progress of children in the area.
To address this long-standing problem, ONGC reconstructed the school building on an elevated foundation, ensuring greater protection from floodwaters and waterlogging. The redesigned structure is expected to provide uninterrupted educational activities even during adverse weather conditions and significantly reduce the impact of annual floods on the school’s functioning.
Local residents described the project as a visionary initiative that will benefit generations of students and provide a sustainable solution to a problem that had affected the school for many years.

Modern Infrastructure to Create a Better Learning Environment
As part of the renovation project, the school building has been strengthened and modernized to provide a safer and more conducive learning environment. Separate toilet facilities for boys and girls have also been constructed, improving hygiene, safety, and overall convenience for students.
The upgraded infrastructure is expected to encourage higher enrollment, improve attendance rates, and create a more positive educational atmosphere. Teachers and school authorities believe that improved facilities will significantly enhance students’ learning experiences and academic performance.
